Can see brown and blue cable above bulb - is this safe?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.47 PM

Whilst cleaning my mum's bedroom I hit my head on a light. Since I have noticed that I can (slightly) see the brown and blue cable above the bulb. This light is never used as my mum finds it's too bright. I switched it on and it still works. I still wanted to check if this would be a safety hazard as I worried I disturbed something? Thanks in advance.

This would be classed as a Code C2 defect as the cable is under strain and the inner blue and brown cores are showing. It's reasonably safe, but not compliant with BS7671:2008 and probably just needs the flex re-routing around the cord grip inside the ceiling rose.

It's probably just came away from its cord grip, its an easy fix. Just make sure to circuit is safely isolated.
