Upgrading Apollo Fanfare 15/30 boiler due to intermittent cut outs
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.31 PM
Our old Apollo Fanfare 15/30 boiler is giving us problems. It didn't fire up at all. A plumber and heating guy checked it and replaced valves unit. Then it seemed to work for a week. Since then it only fires up intermittently even when on timer. I tried to raise room thermostat to see if it made any difference and if fired up but it wouldn't. Plumber came back to see to it but as Murphy had it it fired up for him so he left shortly afterwards and hasn't much idea as to what the problem can be. I tried to arrange for other plumbers to come and check it but they all say it'd be better to replace it for a new one. The existing boiler and hot water cylinder are in one of the bedroom on the first floor. What's better to replace it with: a standard boiler and keep old hot water cylinder (may be more simple and cheaper?) Or have a combi boiler? According to a plumber, to replace it for a combi in same room as old one would be problematic in finding a way out for the condense pipe (boiler about 2meters away from windows) and to put flue through roof ain't best). He suggested the best place would be downstairs in kitchen on the wall-obviously new pipework needed to connect pipes into boiler and drill through kitchen wall for flue and use existing waste pipe for condense pipe too.Does it sound ok?? I'm now somewhat hesitant after reading reviews on here that with a combi boiler there's more water pressure and no-one knows how pipes (ie radiators) will handle it? If we just replace Apollo Fan Fare with another standard boiler would be a safer option as water pressure wouldn't change (even if it's not best for shower)? Plumber also mentioned something about width of boiler pipes that it may be wider than those of Apollo Fan Fare and thus cause problems with installing it in existing boiler cupboard? Our house is a two bed one bathroom. For the combi boiler I was recommended Glow Worm Easicom 24, Vaillant Evo Tec 24, Worcester 24. These are a bit pricey. Any midrange anyone can recommend? And for standard boilers? If we just replace with a standard boiler in old's place would it also need condense pipe and flue through roof or not? Thanks.
