Economy 7 water and storage heaters not getting hot enough

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

We have economy 7 storage heaters and hot water which have always worked fine. Recently though the heaters have been luke warm in the mornings and cold when we get home (we haven't changed the settings) and the water is only luke warm - we can turn it up using the tap and it feels hot for a minute and then feels luke warm again. Any ideas why this may be happening? And what we can do to get it fixed?

The answer in getting it fixed is to call a registered electrician. It could be a loose connection at the E7 consumer unit or it could be a meter or timeclock fault? Only way to tell is to do some on site tests and checks.

It could be possible that the element in your storage tank has become faulty and not heating the water to the temperature that is required. A simple test with a multimeter across the element will tell you if this is so. 80% of these kinds of problems come from a faulty element.

Hi, As all elements in your E7 system are under heated, and you have not had to reset the protective devices this points to a problem at consumer unit end, an element going will point to a single device, this is not the case with your symptoms. A loose connection is probable and needs looking at immediately as this will heat up considerably. Look for a registered electrician with E7 experience.
