planning permission for wooden cabin in Scotland

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

I'm planning on building a wooden cabin in Scotland and I'm wondering if a) i would need to own the land I'm building on, seeing as a lot of land in Scotland is owned by nobody. b) would I need planning permission to do so c) could I source my own wood or would I have to buy it? It would ideally be built in the middle of nowhere so it wouldn't be in the way and there won't be and electricity or landline phone service (maybe self generated electricity but not on the grid). Also if I do need to buy some land, where would be the best place to get it?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi this is dave Your first port of call would be your local land registry office and find out if there is an owner but just because the person is not registered at the registry doesn't meen it is not owned. The thing you wish to do can and probably will be time consuming to do it right. Not to carry out checks could lead to tears. If all checks out the local planning office would inform you of there local permissions and there may be by laws to consider. My advice is check. Check and double check. Kind regards. David.
