Laminate underlay near extension is moldy (though carpet underlay is fine)
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.00 PM
My dining room is half laminate half carpet. I have ripped it all up ready to have my new laminate put down all the way through. The underlay and carpet are fine with no damp at all. The underlay boards under the old laminate are damp and moldy and have stuck to the concrete. The only worry I have is the laminate is next to our extension which was built 50 years ago. Is it the underlay or could it be damp coming through from the extension?

The laminate could be causing a sweating underneath, ensure there is adequate ventilation or indeed the correct underlay has been used.

Did you get your floor moisture tested before installation?
Id suggest you look to get the moisture tested in the floor and then progress from there.
It may be there is no visible moisture and the floor, The Protimeter will pick up the moisture level and in some cases the floor may need a layer of DPM.
From here you can look to buy products that suit the floor to hopefully stop this happening again.
