Gully needed in slab of concrete
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.03 PM
A surveyor said concrete has been laid at, or slightly above, the damp course in front of a small sunroom and a gully is needed to stop bridging of the damp course. The sun room leads off the kitchen into the garden. I am not sure whether he means a groove/channel in the concrete or a channel through to the ground. Any suggestions please?

The widely accepted remedy is to cut a channel as you say and insert a proprietary drainage channel e.g. Aco type. It is advisable to go a step further and damp treat the outside face of the wall as a secondary measure.

Hi. It sounds like he means a Aco drain. It's a small drain that will sit flush with the top of the concrete and go with width of the building. These are normally installed going directly in to the drainage of the house.
Hope this helps

He means a French drain, dig a channel through the concrete next to the wall down to the earth, at least two bricks below the damp course.
Good luck
