Damp Proofing

mould in home, mainly on ceiling around edge of house

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.00 PM

I have recently purchased my home from a family member who assures me that this problem has never happened before. I have noticed that I have mould growing in quite a few places in my home. It seems to be mainly on the ceiling around the edge of the house, and my partner seemed to think it was the guttering that was the problem but I have been told the guttering was cleaned only a few months ago. It is also around the front and back doors and there seems to be a lot of condensation on the doors also. But the windows upstairs are the worst, they usually have a lot of condensation on them and the window sills keep getting water collecting on them. Can anyone offer any explanation for this and how it can be resolved? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi there Sounds like it is a condensation issue if there was not an issue before, I am surprised but just for now do not dry clothes on rads, keep the bathroom door closed and kitchen door closed when using to stop the moisture travelling around the property. But as above this is a ventilation issue, or you could thermal board the walls to stop condensation on the walls but this would not help the windows, have the windows got trickle vents? Also go into the loft and make sure the insulation has been placed right into the edges and not been moved as this would make the ceiling and walls edges colder causing condensation. No simple one fit answer. Regards Joseph

without looking at the issue it is impossible to say if their are other issues, but basically lack of ventilation, post it on the site and get a local expert to check it out. good luck alex
