Back boiler disconnected after new boiler fitted from green deal
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.47 PM
Hi, my mum has recently had a new boiler fitted from the green deal. She had a back boiler and the guys were going to leave it in as they said it was okay to after it had been disconnected. My mum wanted a new fire, so they were then willing to take out the back boiler as this was easier once they didn't have to refit the fire. She is now left with no heating in the living room and doesn't think the company are at fault. Should they have a duty of care to insist she have some form of heating left in place? My mum is 74 and doesn't understand what she is entitled to.

Your mother does have "some form of heating left in place" her new boiler! Surely they fitted a radiator in the lounge?
As for the gas fire, the Back Boiler will have been de-commissioned and made safe, if the gas supply to the fire is still live and the flue way is safe & intact then she can still use it, but I would strongly recommend a Gas Safe engineer is called upon to inspect and make sure it is safe to do so first!
