How to add a radiator without fully draining the system

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

Hi, Worcester Junior 28i System 2 years old, 5 rads. I want to add a rad. without fully draining the system if possible. There is only one other rad at the same height & so if I close it off, and drain minimally, then I can only lose the inhibitor in the pipes on the same level, maybe less if I am careful....yes? The next rad. is about 2 feet lower and the others downstairs. I hope to use an old rad. and will flush. Can I sufficiently flush with just water (hose pipe) and what is the correct way to inhibit it ready for connection? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Make sure you turn the boilers off first and drain down from the lower rad to make sure where you will be working will be dry. Ensure both the flow and return pipes are empty and you can get away without draining. Before you go cutting into the system though undo the existing rad on the same level to make sure its ok. You can flush with a hose pipe, use a rubber mallet to tap the rad to loosen any gunk. Once you've connected the new rad add the inhibitor before filling the system back up using an applicator you can get from a merchants. Then fill the system back up, bleed the system and refill.
