Can I upgrade a fuse board to 17th edition from an old 3036, with the sockets wired in 2.5/1.mm t&e, or does this need to be rewired as well? Thanks

This work is legally notifiable so is required to be either pre notified so as can be inspected during works or done by a registered electrician. But answering the question a consumer unit upgrade need not require the rewiring of circuits If appropriate testing is carried out and the right results are achieved. Kevin.

Older 1970's 2.5/1.0mm cable is not considered compliant with BS7671:2008 as these cables are now around 40+ years old they should be considered as life expired and therefore should be replaced. The main issue with the older 1.0mm cpc is that the EFLI readings will be higher and therefore may exceed the maximum permitted values required in order to get a disconnection time of 0.4 secs or less.
