Internet cable running along outside of 4 floor house?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.03 PM
Hi there, I need help answering this question asap. Is it possible to run a ethernet cable from the main router out of the wall to the very top of the house and then plug it straight into a xbox or laptop, or is there a special cable needed to be run outside? The house has 4 floors and would mean a lot of work to run it throughout the house. Or is there a much simpler solution to the problem? Thanks

Hi there,
Option 1: You can run this cable outside in impact resistance conduit to protect from mechanical damage and to protect from weather.
Option 2:
You can use power line rather net adaptor set with signal booster in middle floor this kit you can fit very easy as its plug and play set up and can be bought from computer shop or online.
Option 2 will be using your electrical wiring to run your data transmission to get your laptop connected via plug socket via rather net cable over the electrical wiring.
I hope this will help you and get your Internet extended in no time without breaking any thing!!
All the best.

Standard UTP (ethernet cable) is not suitable for running outdoors as it is not UV stable so will degrade when exposed to sunlight. Will work for a while but when exposed to cold in winter and hot sun in summer, I would not expect it to last more than a couple of years. You'd need a more robust cable like BT use for outdoor applications.
