I Want an Extractor Fan Fitted in Bathroom but 520mm Hole has to go through Cavity Wall

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.59 PM

I badly need an extractor fan in my small bathroom to stop bad condensation but the cavity wall from inside to outside is 520mm approx. Can this be done? What tools are needed? I live in a ground floor flat which I am currently doing up to sell so costs need to be kept to a minimum.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi - I would suggest a visit to the local hire shop. They should be able to hire you a core drill and a 107mm diamond core bit with an extension rod to core out a hole for a four inch fan. You may need more than one extension rod, but they generally just connect together with screw threads. They charged for the diamond core bit per millimetre of diamond you use. This would be the cheapest option. Ian

You could always fit a ceiling mounted extractor and then have a roofer fit a mac flash to the roof to allow the extra pipe and mushroom dome to be fitted, probably going to be cheaper than trying to core drill that far with the loss of diamond edge cost and possible damage to your arm if you're not used to using a core drilling machine even with a clutch fitted they can snag pretty nastily.
