Roof repairs - am I being ripped off?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.47 PM

I have major leaks in my roof from when the space had been foamed and it has cracked tiles. I have had only 1 roofer reply to my ad and he is charging me £2500 to repair the roof. I got him off rated people as I didn't see this site :-( He is not putting on a new roof, he is repairing: * The bottom 3 rows of felt and batons then replacing tiles (felt and batons had corroded with damp) * A large 30 tile section which had previously been replaced but not fitted properly so glued to make water tight) * The section of cracked tiles round the chimney. * The top bit of the roof which needed re bedding. * The cracked tiles on the front as well as cleaning off the moss and sealing? * Any felt and beams which need replacing when he takes off tiles. * New gutters, fachia and soffit at the back Is this a good price or am I being ripped off? He started straight away as he removed some tiles immediately before quoting as they were in danger of slipping off. I don't know what to do now if he is ripping me off as I'm on my own and don't want to confront them. I haven't paid anything yet and they are still doing the job. Advice please

The fact he started straight away should have alarm bells ringing, if your roof has been foamed, there is no way on earth to be able to re-seal it without taking off the whole side, not just a section here and there. Can really only see tears in the future with this job. He should have never touched your roof until he had quoted for the work regardless of if they where falling off. Wish you the best of luck. Alex

I wish you both the best of luck! Sounds like he's opened a can of worms without consulting you first. As Alex said , expanding foam makes it extremely difficult if not impossible to be able to strip any smaller sections and then tie back into. The whole side needs to be stripped off and rafters need to be exposed before starting from scratch in order to enable a good job well done. Good luck .
