Painting stained/varnished doors/woodwork to white
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.47 PM
All the internal doors and banisters in our house have been stained/varnished a horrible dark colour and I'd like to freshen it all up and paint everything white. I wondered if anyone could please give me some advice on the best way to do this? Thank you.

Hi Tony, the best way to go about this is to rub down all the dark wood that needs to be painted first, then apply a coat of aluminium paint to seal the old stain off, a coat of white undercoat followed by a coat of gloss, eggshell, or satin as a top coat to finish. If you don't seal the wood stain off correctly, the dark stain will bleed through in time, sounds a big task but if the job is worth it, then my advice will do the job. Hope this helps, Dave
