Painting & Decorating

Couple of white patches on newly emulsioned wall

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

Hi, I recently had a hall wall plaster patched after the plaster had blown. It was quite a while before we decorated over it.It was a very professional patching where the plasterer put some sort of white coating over the plaster so we wouldn't see the join in the patching. He told me to rub it down before painting which i did. It's only been done a couple of weeks and i noticed a couple of white patches showing through the new paint. I tried painting over them a couple of times but they insist on returning. There are no wet of fluffy bits just white patches. I didn't undercoat it first with a diluted mist so could that be the problem? And is there anything i can do now to rectify it? Thank You

hi, ask your plasterer if he put pva on the finish? if he did which sounds like the problem then you will need to rub it right back and start again as you will not get a good finish on pva. good luck

Hi Did you after sanding the area wipe all residue off with damp cloth, so you have a clean dust free area to paint? Also after sanding you should have primed the area with a water based emulsion at a ratio of 50% - 50% water to paint, then let dry and put x 2 topcoats. PS Never use PVA on plastered walls prior to painting.
