Bathroom Fitting

Do I need to notify building control if extending my bathroom?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

We would like to enlarge our upstairs bathroom to include a shower cubicle. This involves removing existing stud wall and moving it about 0.75m into bedroom. It also involves moving radiator attached to wall and light switch does building control need to be informed and their approval gained? Also we have just redecorated lounge below-would the lounge ceiling be damaged and would the bedroom floor upstairs need strengthening?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No to building control needing notification other than any electrics for lighting and any fans that will be in Zones 0,1,2 but the Electrician will sort this out for you. You will only have water leaks if there is a problem due to plumbing but in most cases no to ceiling stains. The floors are designed to withstand a standard bath but in some rare cases where the span is to far for the size timber then a professional will know.
