Switchgear replacement...millions of wires.

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

I have two problems: 1. I am replacing a single landing switch. This landing light can be switched on or off from the downstairs hall switch. But the switch on the landing is only for the landing light. I have four cables leading into the switch box Cable one has black red and yellow green. Cable two has yellow red blue and yellow green. Cable three has red black and yellow green Cable four has black red and yellow green Cable one and twos yellow greens are both on a screw in top right of screw box Cable three and fours yellow greens are on a screw in bottom left of screw box. Cable three and fours black and red cables are connected to each other using the mini connector boxes. So how to I arrange the remaining wires from cables 1 and 2 into the switch? 2. Second problem is replacing a pull cord switch so that the light and extractor fan come on when it's pulled. I have two cables: Cable one has brown blue and yellow green Cable two has red yellow green and black I connected blue and black together with a connector box. Put both yellow greens together on earth. Red to comm and brown to l1. The switch worked and then just stopped...have I wired it wrong? Please please help!

It's very unusual to have four cables at one switch! For two way switching only two cables are required. It sounds like someone has bodged this in the past. Really needs a site visit and tests carried out to see what cable is the switchline, if one is the feed and if there is a neutral at the switch etc.

yellow-C/common red+red-L1 black+blue-L2 yellow/greens- earth terminal on back box You may need to check the other switch and make sure the yellow-C/common red-L1 blue-L2 This is because not all electricians wire up the same way and if its not done the same at both switches it will not work properly. Do NOT forget to isolate from supply whilst working on this. Kevin. Kevin.
