Battery powered LED lighting for plinths in kitchen
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.47 PM
Hi, I'm having a new kitchen fitted soon and wondered whether it's possible to get battery powered LED lighting for the plinths? If not, how much hassle is it to wire them in? Including a breakfast bar? Thanks

Battery powered lights are available, and reasonably cheap. But as said before they require constant maintenance with changing batteries, and underneath plinths adjacent to the floor they are notoriously difficult to remove without damaging the surround or finish. Mains powered led lighting is much more customer friendly as they will require no maintenance as such, other than cleaning. They are relatively cheap also, with some nice designs and colour options. They are quite simple to install yourself, and also quite cheap for any good electrician to install for you. But I would recommend consulting someone to check they will fit before you attempt to fit them yourself. Good luck. Andy

Battery powered lighting is an option, however as with all things battery operated the require replacing / maintenance. 75% of new kitchen installs these days have lighting installed as well! It's not too tricky for a good electrician! as long as it's done whilst the kitchen is being fitted. As for the breakfast bar cables may need to be run under the floor below it or in the case you have concrete floors on the ground floor they will need to be chased in and run in a flexible conduit. Those could be done at the same time as you would probably like a socket or 2 on the breakfast bar.
