Can I change the colour of a marble hearth?

I currently have an oatmeal coloured polished marble hearth and I would like to change the colour to black, preferably a matt finish like slate. I can't afford to replace the hearth itself so I was wondering if there are any products out there I could use and if so can anyone give me some advice on how to do go about it please.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Unibond the surface with pva glue leave to dry then you can put a grey undercoat coat then by a tin of black flat based oil paint
or get a colour mix in b and q
