Need to excavate floors for underfloor heating, or can it be laid on top of existing concrete floor?

hello thinking of installing ufh in existing house which has concrete floors (to be linked with ground source heat pump). do you have to excavate the floors or lay this on top of existing floors. if the latter, how much would the floor be raised? many thanks
