Bay window sills at different angles

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

Hi, window fitting advice please We have had our new black upvc bay windows fitted The original sills are tiled and an angle, without any sill on the window. The fitter has fitted 150mm sills on top, so we have 2 sills at different angles, he says that it is the correct sill, is this right? We think it should have stub sills like the rest of the house. Then he ordered the angles incorrect, and had to cut the welded sill and join with fascia cover strip. He said this is normal, because he got his angles 1/2 a degree out and the manufacturer gets theirs 1/2 a degree out, it doesn't fit and he has to cut them up and mitre on site.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi I would say that cutting pre welded cills on site is not best practice as it doesn't give such a nice finish. I suggest that you ask your installer to replace these with possible a stub if the rest of the house has them. Failing that try and find a local installer that is willing to do remedial work to put this right. Hope that helps Phil @ Sharpes Windows and Doors
