Exterior Hardwood mortice and tenon door coming apart and letting in rain

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi, My mum has an exterior mortice and tenon panelled hardwood door that is coming away around the joins on the panels and letting in the rain. You can see out through the openings. There is also splits opening up around the door. I could fill with silicone but you cannot stain over this. What would you suggest. Martin.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Its no good filling with silicone, in all honesty you need a new door if its that bad.

Hi, Get a carpenter to look at it, if it's just the joints are loose and the panels have split/shrunk, they maybe able to replace the panels and re wedge the tenons etc. If the door is rotten, probably would have to replace the door.
