Exterior Hardwood mortice and tenon door coming apart and letting in rain
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.34 PM
Hi, My mum has an exterior mortice and tenon panelled hardwood door that is coming away around the joins on the panels and letting in the rain. You can see out through the openings. There is also splits opening up around the door. I could fill with silicone but you cannot stain over this. What would you suggest. Martin.

the joints need glueing and pulled back into shape with clamps, left to cure for an hour and rehang .

I would say if the door is coming apart it is poss had it..
Probably a better option all round to get some quotes for a new door fitted..

If the door has not deteriorated to much you could take the old wedges out of the door, pull the door apart, only about an inch, reglue the exposed joint then clamp the door back and put new wedges in with plenty of glue.leave for an hour or so and rehang.
