Identifying pipes in garden and if can build on top of them

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.59 PM

Hi, I am looking to get a two story extension built, but on my title deeds it says there are pipes in my garden it doesn't say what type or how far they are in the garden but from the picture they look at the side of the fence, how would I go about finding out what pipes they are and if I could build on top of or beside in (Glasgow)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

They could be public sewers. Talk to your local waste water company, you may have to purchase an 'asset search' that will tell you the position and size of pipes, depths not always indicated. You may have a restrictive covenant from building within a set distance of the pipes. Failing that, it could be gas mains. Might be worth talking to your Building Control people at the council as I am sure you're not the first that wish to build an extension near to these pipes?
