Dials on my 3 year old Vaillant ecotec combi boiler

Hello, I would be so grateful for some advice: recently the heating and hot water dials have to be turned way up high (off the scale dial) in order for both to become hot, any idea why? Also I think I need to replace the soft water bead things, could they be related? Maryanne Nickol
