Kitchen Fitting

tiling before or after fitting worktops?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.02 PM

I'm doing a minor 2 phase renovation of my kitchen with stage 1 being skim plastering a wall (behind cooker) where there were previously wall mounted units and putting up open shelving. I'm keeping the tiles to left and right of cooker/splashback but for phase 2 I want (in due course) to extend the worktop above a new freezer beyond the left side of the cooker; there's currently only a single (60 cm) base unit with wall tiling above the worktop. My Q: should I at this stage already tile above where the worktop will eventually go (in phase 2)? As the plastering of that wall will be done imminently, I want to ensure that old and new tiles will be flush - and that it will still be possible to install a new worktop. Please advise on best course of action! thanks

You should always tile after fitting the worktops. A good kitchen fitter will be able to make sure everything lines up. Yes you can fit a worktop between the unit and tiles as we have done it on numerous occasions.
