Roof purlin supported on chimney breast - extension problem
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
Help. I have employed a structural engineer for this particular job. I am removing a chimney stack. My problem is that the roof purlin is supported on the breast. Once the chimney breast is removed the wall is half brick deep, how do I connect the purlin as I will no longer be able to slot it in the wall?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Go back to the engineer, explain the issue and ask he resolves it.
There should be no cost as it is reasonable to expect a professional to realise that the purlin would be too short to continue the span so he should have designed the solution at the very start.
