Builders using items from kitchen
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.46 PM
We are having a large kitchen extension built at the moment. We have given access to house and facilities (drinks). Also, assured at quote stage, builders would not be bare chested etc. They have, and my girlfriend found this out today. Also, we have provided plastic cups. Today found they are using our glasses, and washing up liquid for mortar. Should we say something to the boss at meeting? We are unsure, because we still have lots of interior work to go, and these people will be working in our house still, while we are not here.

You shouldn't feel wary broaching these issues with the boss, any professional contractor should be able to deal with this appropriately without leaving you in fear of 'annoying the chef before you've ordered your food'! Bazinga!
However, if you really don't want to be in that position you could perhaps casually advise the boss that, to save washing up and any breakages, you've kindly provided plastic cups for refreshments and would be grateful if he could advise his workers of this. Then hide your glasses! Whilst you're on the subject of saving washing up you could drop in that you're getting through your Fairy (other brands available) also. Then hide that. On a serious note washing up liquid reacts with cement and should not be used - an appropriate plasticiser should be used for mortar.
With regards to the bare chests, again you could be 'upfront' about that or advise the boss that Mavis at number 5 nearly fainted from the sight of bare flesh and you don't think you can risk the health implications for her.
Couple of options for you there, hope this is helpful.
