How to replace broken UPVC gearbox

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.46 PM

My warranty has just run out with Safestyle and one of the windows gearbox has broken again whilst the window is shut. I have another gearbox but I am unsure how to open the window. When Safestyle came before to replace the gearbox, my wife said they opened it without taking the glass out but I can't see how. Can any tell me if I have to remove the glass as the latch moves the top locking pin but not the bottom pin. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, removing the sealed unit will help in opening the window as the frame will be less rigid. Please bear in mind that the locking system locates into keepers which are often mushroom headed and depending on the mechanism fitted could have shoot bolts too. I would suggest you get someone who knows how to replace locking systems carry out the work as you could cause damage to the window profile.

If you have had your lock mech changed once allready I think your warranty starts again, they will say it does but it does as it's new part hence safe style get lots of complaints around 9 yrs in they wont like it but new part new warranty
