Driveways & Paving

concrete driveway and soak away

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

We have a driveway which is sloped toward the house at the moment. It's only slabs of concrete, in winter water sands and build up around the house. My builder says the problem would be solved if we put a soak away under the drive and drainage around the house. The new driveway will be finished in concrete. Is this a good way to go about it? Is it a safe option? The driveway is (6.5m w) by (5.2m l) ... as I understand soakaway needs to be 5m from the building (which our drive does not meet that requirement) , is that for big volume soakaway? Will it be fine for 1m^2 ones ? Thanks.

The soakaway itself does not need to be under the drive, why can't your builder install the soakaway the correct distance away from the building? Surely you must have more than 5m of grounds to your property. Why are you having a new drive done without addressing the cause of the problem, can the levels not be reduced so that the water falls away from the building?

A surface drain layed against the house plumbed into a new soakaway (1 cubic meter per 25 square meter of paved area) providing the existing paving is flat and running towards house should solve the problem. Or plumb into existing rain water system, by cutting slabs in situ and laying aco drain to where your down pipe is, providing levels work. Simon, Baker construction

Your soak away should be 5 meters from the house if the drainage is installed correct then it's a safe option
