Is sand needed for laying block paving?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi I'm really stuck on this one as I'm fairly new to this and still learning. I was wondering, I'm laying block paving bricks as a border for a drive. Do I use sand and cement or would cement on its on be ok as no traffic would be going over them?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

it always advisable to use sand and cement when you installing borders with block paving bricks to avoid them collapsing overtime but if you are putting edging kerbs behind it it wont be necessary, remember to haunch the bricks half way up with mortar to keep them in place.

sand and cement or aggregate is needed here to reduce movement and keep everything in place , a good strong mix of say 4 to 1 should be ok and about 4 inches deep.If not the blocks will be free to move and will need rebedding in no time

3:1 sharpsand and cement on a wet bed haunched at least half way up outside of block. As a rule. If its underground use 3:1 above ground4:1
