Brick fireplace edges on wall are messy

Hi, I have just re-pointed my brick fire place, the edge of wall on either side of the fireplace is now pretty messy without a clean cut line. I was just wondering if there is a way to get a neat edge down both sides of the fire place? Thanks in advance

You could use some mortar cleaner available from Keyline or B and Q. Be sure to try an area first and wear the appropriate health and safety

try using some brick acid and a wire brush. use appropriate ppe as acid will burn.
If the mess is to much and cant be cleaned you could always put a chrome bead up the sides and have a rendered finish on the sides.

Yes its how you point it back in if done properly you dont need ti ckean it with acid or wire brush .. if pointed and brushed right will be good job
