Hot water bath mixer tap is sticking and won't turn all the way on

The hot water tap on my bath (this is a mixer tap) has become sticky i.e. it is increasing difficult to turn it - and it now won't turn all the way and hot water only comes out at a dribble. How do I get this fixed - does it mean replacing the tap or is there a way to repair the existing tap?
