Extension build time and timing to obtain quotes

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.46 PM

I received planning permission for a single storey rear and side extension which is about 20sqm comprising a new kitchen, cloakroom, bedroom and with a pitched roof. I would like an estimate of the amount of time it will take to build this including internal decorations (painted walls and laminate flooring throughout, except bedroom). I would also like to know when is the best time to approach builders for quotes, now or after building regulation approval? Note: First draft of building regulation drawings completed but I have requested a few tweaks e.g. location of boiler and minor adjustment in the height of some of the new windows.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Dear Sir/Madam The Extension project can take between eight to ten weeks, or less depending on how much work is involved internally. The best time to approach the builder is when you have got the building regs drawing, we call that the detail drawing. The detail drawing allows the builder to view the materials that have been approved from building control, and according to that, he will offer the quote including labour and materials.
