thickness of acrylic baths

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

Hi, I am very confused about the thickness and insulation of baths. I currently have an 8mm thickness acrylic bath which keeps the water hot and is solid. I am replacing it for a showerbath and have seen advertised mainly 5mm. The prices vary hugely if I look online. ' Bathroom Supastore' are 4mm, but another retailer 'Better Bathrooms' advertise 5mm including front panel and shower screen for a cheaper price. Is some acrylic better than others and how would I know. Is 'cast acrylic' what all baths are. Do they all have 'encapsulated bases'. Has acrylic moved on since I last purchased my bath 13yrs ago and a 6 or 8mm bath is no longer required due to these encapsulated bases? Please help this is very time consuming. Thankyou in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Standard bath thickness is 5-6mm unless you get a caronite bath which is roughly 8mm. Most baths come with encapsulated base but if buying online you wouldn't know until it was delivered unless stated. If you want a good quality bath and are buying online try and go with a known brand or ring the supplier and ask. Hope this is helpful, Adrian
