What screws and adhesive to fix a metal backsplash onto plasterboard lined wall?

Backsplash has 1 screw in each corner and a piece of wood recessed behind it. Must this wood be glued onto the plasterboard? There is a small gap between the plasterboard and the brick wall behind it - +/- 1.5cm. What screws should be used to fix the backsplash?

I would use gripfill (green) to stick the backing on, remove the timber bits then stick the screw cap covers on top of the holes.

I recommend you use CT1 its very good.
