Low profile shower trays and digital showers

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

I'm about to have a total refit in my en-suite and main bathroom, both upstairs. Flooring is chipboard from original build (about 20 years ago), green stuff which I believe is treated, and I've been told is fine. I have 2 questions: 1. I would like to have a low profile tray for the shower, I worry about future problems and access to the waist, a very experience plumber/bathroom fitter told me it should not be a problem if done correctly, not using push and fit pipes. Even if I didn't have low profile and had a regular raised one you're quite limited to what you actually get at and work on under the shower tray. Any experiences or hints very welcome. 2. I have a regular gravity system and currently have a good Mira electric shower but would like to have a decent digital shower to finish off my new bathroom. I know little about these, and advice welcome - are they good, is the flow as good as my current electric? Can't remember what KW it is (cost me about £280 from B&Q). Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

1. Consider access from below or cutting in access from above and refitting access hole piece with extra supports. If it's done properly, it's unlikely you'll need access in it's lifetime for a leak repair so ongoing access isn't required. 2.Your electric shower runs off the mains, not your tanks (gravity system). To get a decent digital shower I'd find one with a pump included and pipe it to your CWS tank and hot water cylinder pipework. Some go in the loft and then a single pipe goes to your shower with the pre mixed water set at the temperature you set on the digital controls in your shower cubicle. A fair amount of work potentially, 1 day at least, but worth it as it'll be far superior to your electric shower.
