Aqua loc flooring

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

Hi, I have a large kitchen/diner/family room, over 60sq metres. We wanted new flooring when we had a wall taken out. There were tiles down already and we wanted a floor like the one we already had in the hall. This floor was zebrano laminate from b&q. B&q advised us not to put the zebrano in a "splash area" and recommended a product called aqua loc. We purchased the aqua loc on their advice, along with the recommended underlay. I used a local tradesman to fit it. It hadn't been down long when it started to bubble and lift at the corners in various different places. We complained to b&q and after months of chasing them they actually sent someone out. They agreed with us that it looked like a flooring fault. The manufacturer then sent out an independent assessor who sent a report to b&q saying there was no manufacturing fault, the floor had been laid incorrectly. I don't really know what to do, as the floor cost such a lot and also cost a lot to fit, and I hate how it looks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No laminate flooring is waterproof. The main core of laminate flooring is made of mdf which can when wet expand. Most diy stores claim their laminate is splash proof, this is because once excessive water gets passed between the joins of the laminate flooring it penetrates into the mdf (medium density fibreboard). However there are different types of laminate quality due to their manufacturers. I recommend quickstep over any other laminate flooring as although its not water proof, it has a very tight clicking mechanism and is patented. It also carries a scratch guard guarantee which means its 10 times more harder wearing than other laminate flooring.
