Damp Proofing

Can I dot and dab after an injection cream dpc?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

Hello, does anyone know if I can dot & dab plasterboard to the wall after fitting a dryzone type injection cream? And if so what is the best way to do it?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello Chris, I would advise against dot and dabbing an even remotely damp wall due to the risk of there still being moisture in the substrate which is highly likely given that most masonry is porous. If dot and dab is used when this is the case there is a risk that if the walls are still damp then the dabs of drywall adhesive will show through like a shadow bringing water to the face of the plasterboard. At the very minimum if you are going to dot and dab the walls after dry zone treatment I would give the walls 3 coats of aqua proof bituminous latex and then blind it with sand to form a key. That way you will have a dpc layer between the adhesive dabs and the porous substrate. This is because the dry zone course will only stop rising moisture from the dpc level and not above. Hope this helps. Kind Regards George.

Alternatively you could use a cavity membrane similar to Delta Membranes Platerbase which will allow you to use plasterboard. Google "plasterbase membrane" for more details.
