How can I trace gas supply pipe for terraced house?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi I'm thinking of building an extension to the back of my house, however, the gas meter currently sits on the back of the house. I will need to get this moved by the national grid, but they have several prices depending on the distance of the alteration. My understanding is that the supply ought to come from the road (i.e. front of the house) so why would the meter be at the back? The houses were built in the 70's and are terraced, so if the supply came from the road, the mid terraces must have a supply pipe running under neath them?! Is this possible (would it ever have been done?) Anyway, short version of the question is how can I trace the gas supply pipe! Thanks Daniel
