Sub floor preparation before laying tiles in hallway of Victorian house
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM
I own an old Victorian house and have just removed the hallway floor to reveal some large Yorkshire stone slabs. My aim is to relay some replica Victorian tiles but I also wish to remove the Yorkshire stone slabs (to keep them for the kitchen). What do I need to do to prep the floor before I can have the tiles laid? Kind regards, Olly

Hi, simply remove the york stone, reduce/level out sub-base, to achieve a depth of 100mm (4") lay polythene membrane on the sub base and up to the bottom of skirting board. If you can get behind skirting all the better, or remove and re lay later, put in 100mm of concrete or screed laid level tile straight on top. Job done
