Can I put conditioned oriented strand boards on joists and tile directly onto them?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM
I have removed the floorboards at first floor as they were very poor and uneven. I am putting in a bathroom. Can I put Conditioned Oriented Strand Board OSB 3 BBA 18 x 2440 x 1220mm CE FSC moisture resistant boards on the joists and tile directly onto them? Or is 18mm marine ply better?

No I would use 18 mm wpb ply but any board that has been fixed to the joists should be overboarded as tiles could crack at the joist lines. I would overboard using cement board, you can use 6mm glue and screwed over the ply, if your are trying to keep the cost down it might prove expensive in the long run if you do not overboard.
