Black marks in newly plastered ceiling after painting
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM
I have just had ceiling re plastered and it was dry when I painted i.e changed to chalky light white colour. I used paint that was for newly plastered ceiling and so didn't water it with a 50/50 paint water mixed as I assumed as it was for newly plastered ceilings this was not necessary. I now have black streaky marks in some areas after putting in third coat of paint - it was fine up until this point, but was advised to put 3-4 coats of paint in ceiling. How do I fix this?

Hi there, it could 1 of two things. Firstly, possible contamination of plaster and has now bleed through the paint. One way to check if it's this is to just paint over the marks with the same product and see if they reappear. If they do so, you will need to stain block these with a stain blocker and then redo the whole ceiling again.
If the marks don't come through after this test, it's possible the roller you used has been contaminated somehow. Sometimes if you use a double arm roller frame, the friction of the roller against the frame can cause dirty lines at the end of the roller.
