Number of downlights needed for en-suite bathroom?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.45 PM
Hi, I am replacing the downlights in my en suite and at the minute there are four standard, cheap ones which match. I want to replace them but I am unsure if I should buy four bathroom downlights or just one for in the shower and three for the rest of the en suite. I will be getting an electrician to install them but want to shop about and see how much the lights are likely to cost me. Thanks, Emily.

The replacement lights must be fire rated and if they are to be fitted in the splash zone (zone 1), they must be IP65 rated.

Hi Emily, look at screwfix or b&q - they offer a very good range of bathroom lights, I always get the bathroom ones or you can start to have problems, need to have a decent ip rating, kindest regards, Jason.

Hi, For commercial applications, new builds and rental property's, all down-lights installed below living area's must be fire rated. (this means that if the its just a loft space above the bathroom fire rated fittings are not required) For other situations its up to you but I would always recommend using fire rated fittings. Remember to fit the minimum IP rating for the zone installed in.
