What repair work needs doing to ruined walls before painting?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

So I've just taken all the wallpaper off one room (just one so far!) and the walls are an absolute disgrace. Cracks and holes everywhere, the wall isn't even, there's some slate thing half way up one wall (not very thick, no idea what it's for), the corners have wooden circular pole-like structures which are also a wreck! I only want to paint the walls and that's fine, no problem with painting but what kind of repair work do I have to do first? Any guesses? Am I going to have to plaster the walls first? And what about the corners which are connected to wood? Use some kind of polyfiller or will plaster do the trick?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

the building must be old as the slat things youve come accross are for the plaster to adhere to and was most probably lime plaster that was on the walls, its not really a problem painting as long as you use a breathable paint and replace the plaster like for like as lime plaster allows your walls to breathe and prevents dampness

We start work with cleaning the surface and then filling the cavities in the wall. A flexible repair mass that attaches fibers to various applications for the production of cement, gypsum, wood-based, cement-lime and drywall. Pre-repaired cracked walls in the apartment should then be properly finished. The snow-white and perfectly smooth wall is achieved thanks to the use of a smoothing coat, which we apply to perfectly dried finishing mass.
