Can skirting boards be fitted after carpet is laid?

Hi, I'm getting carpet laid on Thursday but the skirting I wanted is out of stock so can't get it fitted til next week :( Can i get my carpet laid without skirting fitted then fit skirting on top? Also would it look OK and would the carpet be secure enough if fitted before the skirtings? Thanks in advance

Delay the carpet fitting, that's it :) Everyone is rushing here all the time and once something is not the expected quality then we start thinking...

It would be better to wait especially if you have to paint the skirting board, time must be allowed to aid thorough drying.
