Can I keep tiled shelf around bath if aqua board is used?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.58 PM

Wall is currently tiled down to old bath. There is a tiled shelf running all around the bath. After about 18mths leaks appeared on ceiling below. Couldn't afford to fix problem and re-grouting shelf only worked temporarily. Now 6yrs later! Have decided to tackle problem so we can use the shower which is over the bath (we were still able to use the bath). I am getting a plumber in to put new bath in. If he uses aqua board, could I still have a shelf? Also, I always presumed the leak came from the shelf, what if after having this work done which includes under floor heating, we find it still leaks. How do I know it's not from the tiles covering the wall? Should these have been tiled to aqua board when put up originally?

There are too many possibles to say which one is causing the problem. Don't just take one person's view. Get a few people to have a GOOD look at your problem. If they are genuine people they will not be bothered at the time it takes them.

Aqua panelling is great, it should be screwed down and then all joints sealed with silicone, tiled on top off then grouted then silicone sealed again. This should be plenty to keep water out. Aqua panelling is expensive so I only use it around baths and shower areas. Hope this helps.
