Why have my patio stones bleached?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.58 PM

I've just laid New York slab patio stones and we did it in very heavy rain. The slabs are a mixed colour they have been down for 2 days now and set perfectly however the colour has completely bleached in some stones. Is this due to fine traces of cement being washed on the stone in the heavy rain then very hot sun hitting it. We were told not to seal the stones for at least one week after they were laid. Are these stones now ruined or is there a way to restore colour? Can new colour be painted before they are sealed

Generally we would use an acid to remove the cement residue before sealing the stones. The strength of the solution depending on the actual material quantaties you have used. These chemicals are very dangerous if misused and there are consequences for plant matter and wild life if not contained and removed conscientiously. It can be done but best left to a professional.
