Installing ceramic low level cistern - hang on plasterboard wall or should screws go into timber studs?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

Hello, I am replacing an old plastic cistern with a ceramic (and obviously heavier) one. Is it normal to hang this on a plasterboard wall or should the screws go into timber studs? There are presently no studs in the right places so I would be faced with cutting off plasterboard installing timber and replacing plasterboard. Thanks.

if it was me i would put the wood in so as you have something solid to screw into.plasterboard fixings are not the best at best!!!the problem is if the cistern happens to come loose and the plasterboard holes elongate you have no where to go. having said that it is just my opinion as a old school plumber, who knows brick and or wood is solid. kind regards tom
