Bad smell in concrete floor tiled extension

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

My parents are in an old property one bedroom bungalow. The original kitchen was very small and an extension was put on to expand the kitchen area into a dining room area. The new build part of the floor has under floor heating. The original bit of kitchen floor is part concrete, part wood. The whole area has been tiled over. The extension work was completed some 3 to 4 years ago. The very recent problem is a bad smell in the original part of the kitchen. We have removed the fitted kitchen kick boards and can see no damp or wet areas at the edge of the tiling at all. However, we are now aware that there appears to be some water appearing from underneath one of the tiles. This is not a flow of water, but more 'moistness'. Getting your nose to this level suggest that this is the source of the smell. The smell does not appear elsewhere in the house. Can we have some advice as to who to call to investigate this? With the floor being tiled we can't lift it up just to see! Thanks in advance.

This I'am afraid is going to be a hard problem to investigate without removing the floor tiles, this would be the only solution in my opinion as there might be a leak under the floor,is there any movement in the tiles such as cracked or loose tiles ? the answer is to get a pro in to have a look and if the source is found maybe you could claim on your insurance to put it right.
